Plane accident kills two women in north-central Washington

Two women died in a plane accident early Saturday morning while trying to land at the Tonasket Municipal Airport, according to Yakima Herald Republic. Witnesses said the single-engine plane was on its third pass at landing when a wing hit the ground as it was banking and spun the plane into the ground. The two passengers were from Placerville, Calif., though their names were not immediately released.

Botulism recalled products still being sold

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported Friday that the botulism infected food products from Castleberry’s Food Company are still being sold, although thousands of cans are being removed as fast as possible. More than 90 potentially infected products have been recalled, including hot dog chili and dog foods. The bacteria in infected cans is now causing some of them to explode.

Pedestrian dies after hit-and-run accident

A 57-year-old Pasco native died Tuesday morning after being hit in a crosswalk Monday afternoon according to Tri-City Herald. The pedestrian accident happened in the 700 block of Court Street in Pasco. The driver of the car did not stop and a man has been arrested on suspected vehicular assault after a citizen’s tip helped police find him.

Cable median barriers scrutinized in Tri-City

Tri-City Herald reported today that the cable median barrier system being installed on Interstate 182 in Pasco and already in use on the new section of Highway 240 is being scrutinized after a string of fatal accident on Interstate 5 at Marysville involving a similar barrier. The galvanized steel cable system is more flexible than concrete and metal barriers and can catch vehicles rather than direct them into traffic. However, in Marysville, several vehicles slid underneath the barrier and into oncoming traffic.

17-year-old arrested in suspicious West Valley fire

A series of suspicious fires in West Valley and Yakima Nation have singed several hundred acres of brush over the past week, as reported by Yakima Herald Republic. Authorities arrested a 17-year-old boy Wednesday night in connection with the fires for reckless burning, according to the sheriff’s report. The causes of the fires is still unknown, but authorities believe they were intentional.
